Council pledge
Cambridgeshire County Council has pledged to continue to educate local companies about the importance of effectively managing occupational road risk following the ending of the Department for Transport pilot ‘Road Safety: We Mean Business’ programme...
The success of the programme was recognised as the Cambridgeshire County Council Road Safety Team, which managed the initiative, received a 2008 Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
Commenting on the award, councillor Matt Bradney, cabinet member for growth and infrastructure, said: “We are delighted with this award, as it recognises our commitment to reducing road crashes in the county – supporting businesses in developing both their road safety awareness and in fulfilling legal requirements. With so many road crashes involving a vehicle being driven for work, it is critical for us to continue this innovative project.”
Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe, which manages the Prince’s awards, said: “Many company directors simply do not understand their duty to their own drivers and others using our roads – the Cambridgeshire scheme has gone a long way to changing perceptions; it is a fine example which other authorities should follow.”
