TTC launches campaign as 20 professionals die a week

TWENTY professional drivers die every seven days on the UK’s roads – and now a nationwide ‘drive safely at work campaign’ has been launched by driver training and education specialist, the TTC Group, to cut the toll...

The Telford-based company launched its campaign with a photograph showing 20 silhouettes of employees killed across Britain each week surrounding Simon Protano, head of the Group’s corporate risk management and driver development division, (see cover).

The initiatives was unveiled as the company urged businesses to keep risk management and driver development at the top of the agenda despite the economic crisis.

Mr Protano says many companies are starting to ‘balance the risk’ of prosecution against the perceived cost of implementing a risk management programme.

The TTC Group says it has reduced the price of its training courses to ensure companies do not take ‘deadly’ risks with driver training during the credit crunch.

Mr Protano said: “The consequences of such action could well be deadly and may lead to the first prosecution of a fleet for corporate manslaughter. Educating motorists is the answer to curb the devastating road death and injury toll.

“With the current financial climate, many companies are still failing in their duty of care and opting to gamble the risk of prosecution rather than invest in training for those employees that drive on company business.”
