'Business champion' fleets win RoSPA health and safety gold awards

Safety-focused Northgate and Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services have each won prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ (RoSPA) gold awards.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre, on Tuesday, May 11. The ceremony will take place alongside Safety & Health Expo 2010, Europe’s leading annual health and safety exhibition.

Both companies are supporters of the ‘Driving for Better Business’ campaign and are ‘business champions’ in recognition of the at-work driving safety initiatives they have taken.

Northgate, the UK’s largest vehicle rental business with a fleet of 61,000 vehicles, won a RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Gold Award for the first time last year after winning Silver Awards in 2006 and 2008.

Meanwhile, Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services, operates a fleet of about 8,500 vehicles including 4,500 company cars, 3,000 light goods vehicles and 1,000 HGVs, also won a silver award for occupational health and safety in this years awards.
