Business champions prominent at the Excellence in Road Safety Awards

4 February 2011

RoadSafe was among five of its members – all signatories of the European Road Safety Charter - at the recent  Excellence in Road Safety Awards event in Brussels.

Among more than signatories to the European Road Safety Charter from business and civil society, Tesco.com was one of only six winners of this year’s Excellence Awards. Collecting the award for Large Companies and Multinationals, Keith Price operations director said: ‘In a time when budgets are tight, investing in road safety pays for itself’.

Earlier in the day Adrian Walsh, director RoadSafe was joined by Driving for Better Business champions and charter signatories Tesco, TNT, Johnson&Johnson, and Michelin in a workshop attended by more than 50 European businesses and organisations. During the workshop themed:'Occupational Road Safety: how to build an integrated solution', each business champion explained its own business case and provided valuable insights into how investment in safety made business sense.

Warwickshire County Council, a former Prince Michael International Road Safety Award winner and charter signatory, joined the workshop where its senior road safety officer Stan Milenski, explained how a local authority had invested in internal procedures to make its own people safe when travelling on work-related business.

The European Road Safety Charter is a European participatory platform made up of enterprises, associations, research institutions and public authorities. Each share their good practices to resolve the road safety problems they encounter in their day-to-day environments. The objective of the Charter is to help reduce road fatalities. The Charter has more than 2,000 signatories. Join this community in action!
