A Legacy to Driver Safety

9 February 2011

Chris Hamer is to leave the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (MBC) road safety team which has been at the forefront of local authority work nationwide to improve the safety of people who drive for work.

Barnsley MBC saved significant amounts of money by reducing both accidental damage caused by local authority drivers and the time lost through injury to employees in road traffic collisions.

To achieve this, Chris and Barnsley MBC fleet managers developed a user friendly Driver’s Handbook for all their drivers. Expanding on its success, Chris created a “Safe Driving at Work” pack for the South Yorkshire road safety partnership and for local businesses. The rights to produce this pack were purchased by other local government authorities, among them the Isle of Man Government, Cheshire County Council and the Surrey Camera Partnership, generating further revenue for the Council.

The pack is acknowledged as a market leader for self help information and is available through the Road SafetyGB website or by contacting Chris Hamer on 01226 772193 or at chris_hamer@sky.com
