Business champion Balfour Beatty wins top fleet award

25 March 2011

The occupational road risk management focus of Driving for Better Busines champion Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services has been recognised with another prestigious award.

The company, which operates a fleet of about 8,500 vehicles including 4,500 company cars, 3,000 light goods vehicles and 1,000 HGVs, won the Fleet Operator Initiative of the Year at the 2011 Fleet News Awards.

It was the 11th award that Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services’ Driver Risk Management Team has picked up and follows hard on the heels of a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award at the end of last year.

The Fleet News Initiative of the Year Award celebrates the single best initiative driven by a fleet operator and must show signs of being well-planned and well executed.

The Plant & Fleet Services’ Driver Risk Management Programme is an element in parent company Balfour Beatty’s journey to Zero Harm by 2012.

In presenting the title to Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services, the awards’ judges said, “Balfour Beatty was one of the first companies to embark on a policy of Zero Harm - it’s now being emulated by many others. Every year the company adds new initiatives to strengthen its risk management and 2010 was no different. This really is the template that other fleets should follow.”
