Award for JRSO scheme in Scotland

27 October 2011

The JRSO scheme  was launched nationally in 2002, following the success of local schemes in various areas across the country. Now All Together for Road Safety,  launched in 2009 has won the 2011 Prince Michael International Road Safety Education and Training Award

This programme which could be replicated across the world has an interactive web site at its core, with the new logo and artwork chosen by pupils. It provides a full menu of information, support, ideas and interactive games enabling its use in the modern classroom across a range of technology platforms. The site is highly interactive, with much of the activity being available in the public domain, and links to other resources such as www.streetsense2.com.

JRSOs also have a members site which allows them to showcase their work, share ideas, discuss their activities, learn how to make an animated movies, and upload material and pictures to the site. All this is done in the most responsible way, as the young people themselves fully comprehend the importance of the tasks they undertake.

www.jrso.com is a living resource, with the capacity to be easily updated to keep up with current, and future, trends. It provides JRSOs with the tools they need to achieve their goals in partnership with others, such as Road Safety Officers (RSOs) and Travel Plan Co-ordinators. Road safety activities link in very well to other key areas such as health improvement, sustainable transport and the environment. The site will also be key to the future JRSO involvement in the Decade of Action for Road Safety.
