Pedestrian Safety - Global Road Safety Week 2013

6 December 2012

6-12 May, 2013 is Global Road Safety Week, with a particular focus on Pedestrian Safety.

In many cities across the world and on a high number of inter-urban roads especially in developing countries pedestrians constitute one ofof the highest risk groups group. Yet in many developed countries they are at much lower risk

By focusing on how to solve the problem, road safety professionals can help to share their knowledge and:

• drawi attention to the need for pedestrian safety;
• generate action on measures which work to increase pedestrian safety;
• help to achieve the goal of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 to save 5 million lives.

The World Health Organisation will be developing an advocacy toolkit to strengthen activities in the Week. A new Pedestrian Good Practice Manual will also be available. Further details on the Week can be found here. This site also has options for individuals and organisations to enter a slogan contest, register their event and share key messages.

During the week, we will be working with RSGB to promote successful schemes - we will also be announcing a special Prince Michael International Award for pedestrian safety.

Further advice and guidance on pedestrian safety can be found at:
