UN Global Road Safety Week inspires

29 May 2013

Dedicated to pedestrian safety, the second UN Global Road Safety Week took place on the 6th-12th May. Requested by the UN General Assembly, the week drew attention to the urgent need to better protect pedestrians worldwide, generate action on the measures needed to do so, and contribute to achieving the goal of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 to save 5 million lives.

To mark this occasion. the Forum for the Prevention of Road Accidents (FPRA), in association with Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, organised several road safety programmes in Odisha (India). Mr.Bikash Mohaptra secretary for the FPRA received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2001.

Stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organizations and corporate agencies were invited in this programme. The main objective was to understand the issues relating to pedestrian safety and take appropriate steps to protect their lives. To read about the activites click here.

Benin has also marked the UN Global Road Safety Week with a full agenda of activities.
