Stars on Cars recognised with Royal Award

7 May 2014

Prince Michael has presented ANCAP with one of his International Road Safety Awards in Melbourne.

Stars on Cars was created as an education program to elevate the importance of vehicle safety when consumers consider a new car purchase and to increase awareness and understanding of the safety ratings published by ANCAP.

The SA program involved the education of new car dealership sales staff on the ANCAP safety rating system, who then educate the consumers and plays an important role in the South Australia’s Road Safety Strategy 2020, ‘Towards Zero Together.’

A wider education program was also run through local media involving newspaper advertisements and internet targeting new car buyers.

In 2010, 40% of new cars sold in South Australia were 5 star. At the end of March 2014 this figure had jumped to 71%, remaining ahead of the national average since the launch of Stars on Cars program in January 2011.
