First Gear instructor wins award

Congratulations to Sue Wright from Hampshire whose work has centered around helping young drivers, is the winner of this year's Dominic Fox Award from the IAM.

Nigel Mansell OBE, the IAM President, presented the 2006 Dominic Fox Award - the IAM's most prestigious external Road Safety prize

For several years, Mrs Wright ran the First Gear programme - a pre learner driving course - for the Youth Clubs of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. 

The IAM Dominic Fox Award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding road safety work, particularly activity that has directly or indirectly contributed to saving lives of young drivers and riders.

First Gear which holds  Prince Michael Road Safety Award is a comprehensive, non-formal vehicle education programme that encourages young people, between the ages of 14 to 17, to develop positive attitudes towards the responsibilites inherent in the use of motor vehicles.
