'Paving the Way' - New think piece on behaviour change in road safety

4 July 2017

A new think piece on behaviour change in road safety has been published.

‘Paving the Way; putting behaviour change at the heart of a safe system’ responds to a number of the themes and challenges about the technological and societal changes that are impacting on our use of the roads; encouraging industry leaders and organisations to act in a collaborative and coordinated way to face these challenges.

In publishing the report, Prince Michael International Award judge Deirdre O'Reilly said, “This is a timely and important report which reframes the ambitious strategic vision for a safe and secure road system into a broader, longer term, behaviour based approach. This requires: cross sector engagement, strong strategic leadership; effective collaborations to make best use of limited resources; and a strong evidence-based approach to provide robust and accessible evidence of what works.”

Highways England are keen that this think piece and the recommendations are shared widely within the road safety community, so please do feel free to use it, reference it and share it with your own networks.
