Royal Awards presented in Brasilia.

On the eve of the Second High Level Conference on Road Safety in Brasilia, HRH Prince Michael of Kent presented five of his International Road Safety Awards.

Awards went to The City of Curitiba (Paraná, Brazil) for a new system of Pedestrian Lights for People with Reduced Mobility, Latin NCAP, the Network of Employers in Traffic Safety (NETS) and FEVR - The European Federation of Road Traffic Victims.

The Prince also presented a special award to The Commission for Global Road Safety which was received by Lord Robertson, the commission’s chairman.

Making this presentation His Royal Highness said, ‘My thanks go to the team from The FIA Foundation who again have worked tirelessly to develop and support many initiatives which have contributed to the Decade of Action. One of these was to establish The Commission for Global Road Safety which under the leadership of Lord Robertson and through its Make Roads Safe Campaign has achieved a  remarkable amount – to have galvanised the United Nations and the international community to action is nothing short of remarkable.’

Prince Michael also presented his prestigious ‘Decade of Action’ Award to the Federative Republic of Brazil, represented by Brazilian Justice Minister Jose Cardozo, for international leadership in promoting road safety in the SDGs and hosting the High Level Conference.
