Royal Award for Ascendi’s Action Plan
Ascendi’s 2020-23 Road Safety Action Plan has received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in recognition of its impactful contribution to road safety in Portugal.
Ascendi’s Road Safety Action Plan introduced 14 strategic measures, covering detailed studies, infrastructure upgrades, technological enhancements, and awareness campaigns. A major highlight was the Safety Barrier Upgrading Program that led the way for the replacement of 234 km across Ascendi’s network. This €18 million investment also led to the development, testing, and production of a pioneering solution specifically tailored for bridges and viaducts on the national road network.
The Plan also focused on raising public awareness, featuring campaigns aimed at specific groups, such as a campaign for children addressing the risks of mobile phone use while driving, and another encouraging safe behaviour in work zones.
