THINK! launches its Don’t Put Drugs in the Driving Seat campaign, reminding young drivers of the risks and the spiral of consequences they can face if they choose to drug drive.
The campaign targets 17-29-year-old men, who are over-represented in drug drive casualties. The creative uses the driving seat as a constant setting, with a rotating camera effect revealing how one poor decision can lead to a spiral of devastating consequences.
Overconfidence and a tendency to underestimate the risks are widespread, with 32% of young men believing it is OK to drive after taking drugs if they ‘feel fine’, while 46% report knowing someone who drives after using drugs.
Drugs, whether illicit or prescription and over-the-counter medications, can have similar effects by causing drowsiness, dizziness, or altered perception. Additionally, fatigue—often underestimated as a form of impairment, slowing reaction times and reducing alertness. Driving while impaired doesn’t just endanger the impaired driver; it also puts passengers, pedestrians, and other road users at risk.
