International Research Group TRAUMA honoured with a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
International Research Group TRAUMA has been honoured for its well-coordinate and innovative approach to producing post-crash data.
Few African countries have accurate data concerning RTI and their impacts on the population. Detailed, disaggregated, in-depth information about injuries after crashes are almost non-existent. This programme from Burkina Faso, Benin and Mali aims to produce this data by developing data collection applications for smartphones for police and health care workers.
It is backed by an inter-disciplinary team composed of African and European researchers for this project.
There has been a lot of investment and effort to improve road safety (including post-crash care) in West Africa in the last two to three years and this is a fine example of the outputs of this coordinated approach. Particularly impressive is the way that these projects have been coordinated over multiple countries in French Africa.
