NGOs honoured with distinguished Royal Awards

11 December 2018

Two NGOs have been honoured at the annual Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards Ceremony.

RoadSafety UAE – Holistic seatbelt law.

Founded in 2014 RoadSafetyUAE is an NGO which has successfully lobbied for the introduction of a comprehensive seatbelt law using sound data and scientific evidence.

Central to its success was a market research based programme which underpinned a media campaign to draw attention to the need for the law which was eventually enacted in 2017.

Congratulating RoadSafetyUAE, His Royal Highness Prince Michael said, “This is a fine example of the work of an NGO in encouraging a government to act.”

Road Safety Kyrgyzstan – Road Safety Projects.

In a country with over 10,000 NGOs, Public Association Road Safety (PARS) – is the first and only one dedicated solely to road safety. Established in 2012 with a grant from the UK charity EASST, it has implemented 15 major projects ranging from public education to children’s programmes. It retains a high profile with many successes confirming its notable public acceptance.

Of major significance is The ‘Pedestrian Safety in Bishkek’s Smart City Concept’ where it has been effective in influencing the development of the Government’s Smart City Strategy to include better provision for vulnerable road users in the Kyrgyzstan capital.
