The Road Safety GB Conference Rural Roads - what are the dangers and how can we make them safe? will take place on Wednesday 10th February 2021.

More than half of fatal crashes in Britain occur on country roads and, per mile travelled, country roads are the most dangerous roads for all kinds of road user.

Car occupants and motorcyclists are twice as likely to be killed on a country road than an urban road; and cyclists are almost three times more likely to be killed on a country road.

Young people are one of the groups most at risk on rural roads, with 17-24 year-olds accounting for a quarter of all those killed and seriously injured.

This conference will set out to understand the issues behind the collision and casualty statistics, and equip road safety professionals with the knowledge to help them develop interventions to improve safety among rural road users.
