Safe Kids Buckle Up Programme recognised with Royal Accolade

15 December 2020

In 1997, the Safe Kids Buckle Up Programme (SKBU) was created by the US-based Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW), with support from General Motors (GM). SKBU is a comprehensive programme that focuses on vehicle safety for children in and around the vehicle.

Since its inception, the programme has hosted more than 156,266 educational events across the USA reaching more than 29 million families. These activities have resulted in more than 784,000 car seats distributed to families in need and more than 2.55 million car seats checked.

Since 2014, SKW has worked with GM to replicate SKBU in China. To date, the programme has reached over 380,000 children from more than 4,800 schools in 52 cities. The CPS programme was also instrumental in advocating for the passage of a CPS law in Shanghai. The programme was also expanded to Qatar and last year, has started the groundwork in Brazil.
