Safer roads

In delivering a Safe System the inherent safety and protective quality of road networks for the benefit of all road users, especially the most vulnerable (e.g. pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists is essential. This is achieved through the implementation of road infrastructure assessment and improved safety-conscious planning, design, construction and operation of roads. 

Building on decades of road safety research, a helpful toolkit  for engineers, planners and policy makers to develop safety plans for car occupants, motorcyclists, pedestrians, bicyclists, heavy vehicle occupants and public transport users.

Among our partners helping to deliver knowledge on how to design the safest roads is iRAP, which provides tools and training to help automobile associations, governments, funding agencies, research institutes and other non-government organisations in more than 70 countries make roads safe.
