Free Ageing Driver Course for ADIs

7 February 2024

The RSGB Academy is encouraging more driving instructors to sign up for its Ageing Driver Course , which is currently free of charge, before places run out.

In addition, organisations that are running older driver schemes are encouraged to make their driving instructors aware of this training.

The Ageing Driver Course is ideal for any Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) who wishes to learn more about how to support an older. The course has DVSA recognised status, as well as being recommended by the Older Driver Task Force.

It develops an ADI’s understanding of:

  • Common collisions experienced by older drivers
  • How the ageing process may impact on:
  • Eyesight
  • Hazard perceptions skills
  • Strength and flexibility
  • The need to promote self-assessment skills
  • The role of diabetes
  • How to prepare for driving retirement
  • Professional boundaries
