Older Road User Conference 2019: Road Safety GB, New View Consultants & RAC Foundation

The 2019 Older Road User Conference was held in London on 24th September.

The one-day conference, jointly organised by Road Safety GB in partnership with New View Consultants and the RAC Foundation, is designed to help road safety professionals keep older people safe on the roads for longer.

The legendary BBC Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton OBE delivered the opening keynote address. In all, the programme comprised 14 presentations covering the following topics:

• A new training programme to help driving instructors better understand the needs of older road users

• Autonomous vehicles and older people’s mobility

• Hazard perception testing for mobility scooter users

• Cycling in later life

• Preparing for life after driving

• Regional transportation hubs

• Alternative future transport options for the elderly

• The Older Road User Safe Mobility Knowledge Programme

• Safe driving and ageing in Estonia

• E-bikes and older road users

• Older road users in London
