PACTS: Collison investigation conference.

PACTS is holding a major conference, supported by Highways England, to explore how road traffic collision investigation procedures can be improved in the UK – to join up the parts, to obtain greater learning and prevent fatal and serious collisions in the future.

It will take place on Wednesday 22nd March 2017 at Church House, Westminster and will of intereset to collision investigators, lawyers, highways and traffic engineers, road safety auditors and officers, motor insurers, vehicle safety engineers, occupational safety managers, transport safety researchers, transport safety policy makers and others with an interest in road safety.

The key speakers have been confirmed as:

  • Ian Yarnold, Head of International Vehicle Standards Division, DfT: In-depth collision investigation: RAIDS and the implications of autonomous vehicles autonomous vehicles
  • Simon French, Chief Inspector, Rail Accident Investigation Branch: Lessons from rail accident investigation
  • Richard Cuerden, Chief Scientist, TRL: UK road collision investigation and the case for a Road Collision Investigation Branch
  • Kathrine Wilson-Ellis, Senior Strategic Programme Manager – Road Safety, Highways England: Highways England Fatality Study – Identifying the root causes and countermeasures
  • Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry, National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for road death investigation: Police collision investigation procedures

The panel will be as follows:

  • Amy Aeron-Thomas, Advocacy and Justice Manager, RoadPeace
  • Peter Sippitt MBE, Chairman, Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators
