Could Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems reduce fleet costs?
Utility Fleet magazine has just published an article about the importance of Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) for trucks.
A tyre which is 20% under inflated will last for roughly 18% less miles, contribute to higher fuel usage, and have a greater chance of failing while on the road.
Recent figures from Highways England show that there were 61,405 wheel or tyre related incidents on motorways and major trunk roads between April 2013 and September 2014. The most common problem is a gradual loss of pressure leading to a failure of the tyre which is why TPMS is good. It can feed live data to operators allowing them to make the most effective decision for repair or replacement, minimising downtime, costs and the risks to the driver and other road users.
