Important role of the Police recognised at Award Ceremony

11 December 2018

Prince Michael has recognised the important role of the Police at his annual award ceremony.

Operation SNAP is a web-based system which allows the public to submit photographic evidence of bad driving to the police. Such evidence includes video and photographic evidence from dashcams, helmet cameras and personal video,

Utilising processes and resources already established in the safety camera programme, this was rolled out across Wales in April 2017. Key to the project has been the development of a secure method of receiving third party media which is acceptable as evidence, whilst at the same time making the process straightforward for the public.

It is now being adopted nation-wide.

TISPOL – The European Traffic Police network demonstrated its leadership with Project Edward (European Day without a Road Death) - a low cost campaign run in a partnership between police forces and road safety stakeholders across Europe.

Among its many achievements it leads this high-profile, evidence-based initiative through targeted enforcement, media and PR for one day each year. In 2018 thirty one countries participated and a continental road trip covered 3000km across 10 European countries helped to highlight the campaign. Social media reached in excess of 38 million people.
