Australian National Road Safety Action Plan To Reduce Road Trauma Released

3 March 2023

The National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) Australia, welcomes the release of the  National Road Safety Action Plan (2023–2025) . The Action Plan continues to illustrate the role that businesses and organisations have with regards to sharing the responsibility for road safety. Vehicle-related incidents are still the leading cause of workplace fatalities, accounting for 38 percent of total workplace fatalities in 2022.

The mission of the NRSPP is to empower organisations through learning, sharing and collaborating to develop evidence-based, best practices to minimise workplace road trauma.

The actions outlined in the Plan strongly align with the NRSPP’s mission and the program’s philosophy that developing a positive road safety culture will not only reduce road trauma and protect the community, but is simply good business. The Action Plan focuses on delivering tangible and measurable actions, clear responsibilities and timeframes, with consistency and linkages between the Strategy and Action Plan.

It sets out the actions the Australian, state and territory governments will take to implement the nine priority areas in the strategy over the next three years.

Important Australian Government actions include:

  • improving regional and remote road safety through targeted road safety infrastructure programs,
  • progressing the uptake of new vehicle safety features and technologies through new Australian Design Rules, and
  • building and upgrading heavy vehicle rest areas
