Derby Business Seminar

12 September 2012

Driving for Better's Business Champion Balfour Beatty  was our host at a regional seminar run to brief local businesses on how to protect themselves and their staff from the costs of poor driving. The free seminar and workshop was organised by Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership with support from Driving for Better Business.

The Managing Road Risk workshop attracted some of the largest employers in the region as well as a number of SMEs . The venue for the event was Balfour Beatty’s Driver Risk Management Centre in Derby and the company ran several practical sessions during the workshop. Also attending were some key decision makers from local authorities.

Partnership manager Robert Hill said,  “Crashes are more expensive than many businesses realise - they cost British employers around £2.7billion every year. For every £1 insurers pay out businesses can expect to pay between £8 and £36 themselves.”

Central to the event was a workshop to promote the business benefits of good management led by Tracey Scarr from Business Campion, Arval and Alison Moriarty from Enterprise where delegates considered how to get  buy-in from the senior management team and how to ensure that drivers understood their responsibilities.

Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership is offering free driving health checks to local businesses.
