October campaign to focus on the effect of pressures on tyre safety

20 September 2007

Helping to prevent vehicles crashes, improving fuel consumption and pumping less CO2 into the atmosphere, are vitally important messages related to under inflation of tyres, which are to be promoted by TyreSafe as part of the first nationwide tyre safety and awareness campaign planned for next month.

The recent government television advertising campaign outlined the waste of fuel and damage to the environment that under inflated tyres can cause. TyreSafe is backing this initiative with a major promotional programme outlining the effects in road safety terms of under inflated tyres and involving the UK tyre industry in this important campaign.

The impact of climate change is now top of the global agenda, and the tyre industry can play its part in raising the awareness of this issue as well as making a contribution to reducing the impact of CO2 emissions by encouraging all vehicle owners to check and adjust tyre pressures on a regular basis. A key commitment of the campaign is that tyre retailers taking part in the campaign will offer a free tyre pressure and safety check to motorists during the month of October.

RoadSafe partner, TyreSafe has linked up with respected motoring journalist and Channel 5 Fifth Gear television presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson who will be the face of the campaign as well as lending her support to this important initiative. To back up Vicki’s involvement, TyreSafe has produced a series of attractive and hard hitting promotional literature including posters, leaflets and press advertising templates, all of which are available to retailers and supporting companies to download from the TyreSafe website www.tyresafe.org  which should be the first port of call for those wishing to become involve in the campaign.
