UN Assistance to develop Road Safety Targets
The UN Regional Commissions have been awarded a grant from the United Nations Development Account for a project aimed at assisting low and middle income countries to develop road safety targets and at providing them with examples of good road safety practice that could help them to achieve the targets selected.
The project will be implemented by the five Regional Commissions in cooperation with other international organizations and NGOs active in the field of road safety. The main activity of the project is the organization of seminar(s) in each Regional Commission in 2008 and 2009. The beneficiaries of the project are government authorities involved in road safety (Ministries of Interior, Transport, Health and Education), NGOs active in road safety in the different regions, and all road users. Planning for the implementation of the project will start as soon as funding is received and actual implementation will take place in 2008 and 2009.
