DfT goes on tour to hear views on cyclist and pedestrian safety

In March 2018, Jesse Norman, the minister responsible for road safety, launched a call for evidence – seeking views on everything from improved infrastructure to education for all road users.

The review, which ends on 2nd June, is part of the Government’s drive to make cycling and walking safer, while encouraging more people to take up cycling as part of a ‘green revolution in transport’.

To gather more views before the deadline, the DfT will be touring the country to meet with members of the public interested in road safety issues.

The six key consultation themes are:

• How to improve safety through changes to road infrastructure
• The law and rules of the road
• Road user training and testing
• Education
• Vehicles and equipment
• Attitudes, understanding and awareness of different road users

The DfT is particularly interested in ideas on how to improve the safety of vulnerable road users including the elderly and disabled, children, cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists and horse riders.

The four events, which will last approximately two and a half hours, take place in:

• London (16 May) – Vestry Museum, Walthamstow – fully booked
• Bristol (18 May) – City Hall
• Birmingham (21 May) – Room 116, Transport for West Midlands, Summer Lane
• Manchester (23 May) – 2 Piccadilly Place, Transport for Greater Manchester
