HSE updating its primary guidance on driving for work
Source: Driving for Better Business.
The Driving for Better Business Gap Analysis and resources are all designed to help employers meet their legal obligations, as laid out IN the Health and Safety Executive’s essential guidance on Driving for Work. This guidance is currently under review, and the HSE is seeking feedback on how this guidance can be improved and updated. Please see below and click the link to complete the short survey.
For most people, driving will be the most dangerous activity they do. It is estimated that one third of all road traffic collisions (RTCs) in Britain involve someone driving as part of their job, and countless other RTCs involve people travelling to or from their place of work. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers to take appropriate steps to ensure the health and safety of their employees, and others who may be affected by their activities when at work.
Although the risks associated with driving cannot be completely controlled, an employer has a responsibility to take all reasonable steps to manage these risks and do everything reasonably practicable to protect people from harm in the same way as they would in the workplace.
HSE and Department of Transport produced joint guidance in 2014, INDG382: Driving for Work to help duty holders manage work-related road risk. However, in recent years there has been a significant development in driving technologies and practices that has brought into question the currency of this guidance.
We would like your help to identify how INDG382 can be improved in terms of its relevance, currency and accessibility. Ultimately, the aim of revising the guidance is to encourage greater compliance and help people to do the right thing.
We have created a short survey and we are interested in feedback from people who drive for work even if driving is not their main role across all industries including agriculture.
