International awards for Safer Roads focus for So-Mo and Shaanxi Mountain Road Safety Demonstration Project.
So-Mo - Innovative Crossings - Using Behavioural Insights and a Trial - with support from The Road Safety Trust, So-Mo has led on this innovative crossings trial designed to address the critical issue of high adult pedestrian casualties in Liverpool. Research showed that 22% of pedestrian collisions occurred near crossings and that by designing new appealing looking crossings led to a landmark 14% increase in the utilisation of pedestrian crossings.
iRAP - Shaanxi Mountain Road Safety Demonstration Project , People’s Republic of China - implemented by the Shaanxi Provincial Transport Department and ADB with iRAP and ChinaRAP, this $344 million project led to upgrades of more than 850km of roads with improved star ratings, training of more than 200 professionals, and 2,400 students, teachers, parents, and residents participating in evidence-based education activities. The length of road rated 3-stars or better increased by 52% and deaths reduced by 33% and injuries by 53%, saving 32 lives and 868 injuries annually.
