New Rider Hub launched

25 April 2022

RoadSafe welcomes the new The New Rider Hub - The  Hub has been created by the National Young Rider Forum, as one the recommendations of its research project titled ‘ Understanding Young Riders’ , published in 2021.

The website – which has been designed in a mobile-friendly way – contains a host of east-to-digest information on a broad range of subjects from the CBT test, other training, maintenance, security and insurance.

The National Young Rider Forum is group of Road Safety Professionals, joining their expertise to specifically look at Young Motorcyclists. This vulnerable group are aged between 16 to 24 years and ride powered two wheelers of up to 125cc. Its members bring a wealth of expertise from all corners of Road Casualty reduction and include representatives from Local Authority Road Safety Teams, Safer Roads Partnerships, Motorcycle Industries Association (MCIA), Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), Police forces, Fire & Rescue and the DVSA.

The research report published in 2021 re-emphasises the size of the new rider collision problem. There were 30,862 young people (16-24 years) injured whilst riding a motorcycle in Great Britain between 2014 and 2018. The majority of these casualties were young males on motorcycles with engines up to 125cc. When comparing with young driver casualties, the numbers of young motorcyclists killed or seriously injured exceeds the numbers of young car drivers for all ages from 16 to 23 years. T
