Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards

18 December 2012

Among the winners of  awards at the annual ceremony in London were: Iron Mountain and Volker Rail, two companies demonstrating an outstanding commitment to the management of those who drive for work.

Iron Mountain, a global leader in information management with a fleet in UK and Ireland includes 290 vans started a comprehensive programme to cut road incidents in 2008 in partnership with Zurich. It initially cut incidents by 71% but wanted to improve further. Now by using GreenRoad’s service it has achieved a 14% reduction in fuel consumption and an 80% reduction in risky manoeuvres, with an 80% overall reduction in incidents. Sponsored by GreenRoad

Volker Rail operates a fleet of approximately 400 cars and commercial vehicles. The top-down management of occupational road risk is now firmly embedded. Its ‘Hearts and Minds Model’ approach is a major influence on performance, embracing the benefit of driving safely to ensure employees return home in the same healthy condition they left.

The project includes a complete road safety suite of solutions, from driver health medicals to defensive driver training. This project initiative commenced in November 2008 and has an infinite life, due to the long lasting commitment by the company. It is an early adopter of the ISO 39001 Road Traffic Safety management system.

Highly Commended was Clancy Docwra  - The £250m turnover Clancy Group has introduced a comprehensive range of road safety control measures, in line with its corporate plan and values this has led to a steady reduction in the number of accidents involving the company’s drivers. The group recognises that to further improve it needs to ensure it has in place a comprehensive audit trail of drivers, vehicles and journeys as a key part of its duty of care. This is now a very high business priority and its use of RiskMaster to achieve this is commended. Sponsored by ARI
