UN SDG target to halve road deaths by 2030 one step closer
A global target to reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities as recommended in advocacy led by the FIA Foundation and Commission for Global Road Safety, has been included in the ‘zero draft’ proposals for the UN’s Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals.
The zero draft of a set of Post-2015 Goals has been drawn up by the Open Working Group of governments at the UN, tasked with making recommendations on the SDGs. The FIA Foundation has been leading NGO efforts to include road safety in a post-2015 Health Goal as the drafting process reaches its final stages.
Rob McInerney, CEO iRAP comments " Great to see draft UN Sustainable Development Goals including a health related goal to halve road deaths by 2030 and the link between safe roads, sustainable communities, poverty reduction and economic growth."
The draft working document shows:
- Proposed goal 11.1 - build inclusive, safe and sustainable cities and human settlements
- By 2030 11.2 - provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport for all, expand public transport and improve road safety transport for all.
