Wolseley champions National Road Safety Week 2008

31 October 2008

Wolseley, one of the Driving for Better Business Champions, is again embracing community initiatives during Road Safety Week, taking place 10-16 November in the UK. The main focus this year is on ‘Family safety – protecting the ones you love'. As in the last two years, internal and external members of Wolseley's Fleet Safety Steering Group have all pledged to participate, and encourage support and promotion across their area of business. Harnam Singh Nijjar Wolseley's Safety Programme Advisor is co-ordinating the various events and communications, which include:

·A series of communications and posters on display thought the business.

·Monthly Essential Safety Theme to all 1950 company locations focusing on ‘Fleet Safety’.

·Fleet Safety Seminars being undertaken by Interactive Driving Systems.

·Road Safety Training in Local Schools.

·Vehicle tyre and windscreen checks being run at company's head office locations.

·Alcohol awareness workshop being run by Zurich insurance.

·RAC providing reverse parking training for head office staff to Promote Reverse Parking.

·A 'Dress Down' day at head office – with all proceeds in aid of Brake.

·Fleet Safety Steering Group meeting during the week.

·Brake’s petition lobbying for 20mph zones around schools and homes being signed by employees and students attending workshops.

·Online RoadRISK assessment reminders being sent to all drivers with outstanding activities.

·Press releases in trade and local press to encourage wider support for road safety.

Harnam said: 'As a responsible organisation, with vehicles operating in all the local communities that we operate, we believe we can do even more than we are already to improve the safety of our own fleet, our family members and the people with whom we share the road. Road Safety Week is a great platform for us to do this, as we continue to drive down the collision rate of our own vehicles, and help make the roads safer for society in general.'
