Safe Journeys to School
Wednesday, July 6, 2022
Fatal road accidents happen daily all around the world. Often taking place near schools and affecting students every day. For over 80 years, 3M has worked in communities around the world to help make roads safer, with the mission of helping bring families home safely. The newest project, School Zones, is helping to further this mission using 3M technologies to improve 100 school zones by updating crosswalks and signage using 3M reflective materials. By 2024, 3M will help students in 23 countries get to school and back home safely.
3M is collaborating with International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) and is using its Star Rating For Schools tool to help improve school zone safety. The tool relies on Crash Modification Factors (CMFs) which are based on scientific studies to better understand the impact of road countermeasures. This information can be paired with 3M solutions to improve student, pedestrian and driver safety around school zones. In addition, 3M will also continue its advocacy work for improving road safety standards.
