Zero carbon and zero road deaths

21 October 2021 on-Line

Does less traffic mean safer traffic?

In November the UK government will host the UN COP 26 global summit on climate change, intended to put the world on a binding path to containing global warming. Transport will inevitably form a significant part of the agenda as it contributes around one third of global emissions. PACTS wants to demonstrate that safety is relevant to this agenda, both as an enabler of carbon reduction measures and to ensure that safety objectives are not compromised.

The PACTS conference Zero carbon and zero road deaths – does less traffic mean safer traffic? will be held online on Thursday 21 October 2021, 10.00-13.00.

The aim is also to explore the relationship between these two policy agendas, and the road safety implications of following zero carbon policies. How should the UK ensure that less traffic, more public transport, more walking and cycling, as well as electric / hydrogen vehicles etc lead to zero road deaths as well as zero carbon?
