Innovatory Shell Varsity Challenge recognised with Royal Award

15 December 2020

The innovatory Shell Varsity Challenge from Shell Malaysia has been recognised with a Royal Award.

Shell Malaysia has been involved in road safety advocacy since 1957, refreshed its programme, #ShellSelamatSampai in 2016 and introduced the Varsity Challenge in 2017 to encourage students to think critically and use science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to solve road safety challenges. Universities can be directly involved in providing practical solutions to alleviate existing challenges.

Over the three years, Shell Varsity Challenge has gained participation from 25 universities throughout Malaysia and 60 positively impacted road safety innovation project prototypes have been introduced. One of the prototypes introduced was a Lane Alert Assist to alert other drivers to potential head-on collisions. It was successfully built/tested and installed onto the university bus.
