Road Safety Culture vs Compliance

18 March 2025

A driver who values road safety culture will follow the rules.  Australia's NRSPP explores the benefits of a road safety culture V compliance .

Driving can be a dangerous occupation. In 2023, a total of 1,266 people lost their lives and a further 40,000 were seriously injured in road related incidents in Australia (Bureau of Infrastructure, 2024). An organisation’s safety culture can help drive reductions in road trauma.

Building culture always starts with people. Your attitudes about road safety can start to form before you’ve even learnt to drive. Peer to peer observation and feedback can help to build a strong safety culture and reduce risk of workplace injury. While supervisors play a key role in maintaining safety standards, the safest workplace is the one where everyone is looking out for the safety of themselves and their peers. Good cultures should be oriented by purpose and driven by values.
