National Road Safety Conference 2015 - agenda is updated

23 June 2015

Around 180 people have already registered to attend this event and 13 companies (plus four sponsors) have confirmed their participation in the exhibition which will run alongside the conference.

As per last year, in addition to the main programme there will also be a fringe programme covering a wide range of topics. Delegates will be free to move between the two programmes as they wish.

The conference will open (1.00pm 18th Nov) with a series of presentations from national road safety stakeholders (including Road Safety GB, DfT and Highways England) who will outline their priorities and strategy for the next 12-14 months. This will be followed by presentations from senior road safety professionals explaining how they have adapted the way they deliver road safety services against a backdrop of shrinking resources and finances. Speakers will include:

  • Jeremy Phillips (Devon CC)
  • Andrew Bradley and Trish Hirst (City of York)
  • Philippa Young (Warwickshire CC)
  • Paul Copeland (East Riding Council).

Day two will open (9.00am 19th Nov) with a series of presentations covering topics relating to fitness to drive including visual impairment, health and age. Speakers will include:

  • Tanya Fosdick (Road Safety Analysis)
  • Dr Carol Hawley (Warwick Medical School)
  • Dr Nicola Christie (UCL)

This will be followed by a session looking at innovations and interventions to improve the safety of cyclists – the speaker line up for this session has yet to be confirmed.

As in previous years there will be a 'Question Time' session with the line of panellists as yet to be finalised.

The conference will close with a topical topics session which will include presentations looking at the role of telematics and engaging with young drivers, with more to be confirmed. There will also be a fringe programme running alongside the main conference which will include sessions on road safety and public health, and the use and application of behaviour change techniques in road safety interventions.
